Full Tour Description

Pass through the magnificent Puerta de Alcazar and discover the ancient city of Avila with its spectacular two and a half kilometres city wall, lined with 88 watch towers and 2,500 turrets. Once inside this walled city it almost feels that time has stood still, history pores from every corner with its Gothic and Romanesque Churches, Cathedrals and Convents.

The tour starts with a walk along the 12th century city walls, followed by a visit to the 12th century Gothic Cathedral built into the cities walls, inside you will find the magnificent alter painting depicting the life of Jesus by Pedro Berruguete considered by many to be one of the finest examples of medieval art in Europe. Next you make your way to the Convent of Saint Teresa built on the site where she was born and nearby are several museums displaying items that belonged to her and tells the story of her life followed by a tour of the 11th century Romanesque Bascilia de San Vicente.
