The tour takes you through the centre of town with its winding cobblestoned streets and the amazing terraced Plaza Mayor of Chinchon, used throughout the centuries for bull fights, festivals, parades and surrounded by cafes and restaurants where you can stop and try the local drink called ‘Anis’. Full Tour Description
The picturesque town of Chinchon is an hour’s drive South of Madrid. This wonderful Spanish town is steeped in history and traditions dating back to the early 11th Century. The tour includes a walk through the town centre taking in the medieval plaza, Plaza Mayor de Chinchon, with its 235 wooden and brightly painted balconies, the 15th Century Baroque Church of the Ascension with its The Assumption of the Virgin by Goya, San Anton Hermitage the oldest building in the town, the Lope de Vegas Theatre and Clarisas Convent founded in 1563. The tour finishes at the Condes Castle with its commanding views over Chinchon.
During the tour there will be time to stop and try a glass of ‘Anis’ an aniseed liqueur typical of the region at one of the many local Chinchon mesons bars.
